History: 

In 1993, a national identity card was established in the Kingdom of Cambodia; implementation began in 1996. Cards issued in this series were valid for 10 years from the date of issue. 

A new biometric identity card was implemented in 2011. Due to delays in issuing these cards, the validity of expired national identity cards has been extended to December 31, 2018.

Full home address, ID number, and fingerprints are stored electronically but not shown on the card. A scanned copy of the holder's birth certificate and a copy of the relevant page of the family book are also stored electronically.
