History: 

The first national identity card was issued in 1932. In 1992, it was replaced by a blue cédula; this card was again updated in 1998. 

The current national identity card was implemented in 2014, and includes electronic storage of personal data. Identity cards from the previous series were accepted until 2015; however, they are no longer accepted as valid ID.
