Card collects the following information: name, surname, mother and father's name, date and place of birth, marital status, religion (voluntary information since 2006). The ID number (11 digit ID  number is mandatory since 2000). The Electronic ID card project was commenced in 2007 and a pilot implementation was launched in the province of Bolu in 2008. Electronic ID cards involve a chip which carries identity information including identity number, photograph, and pin code. Electronic IDs are available to include biometrics as well. Fingerprint will be used as biometric after pilot implementation. Pilot implementation is combined with social and health security system. The Ministry of Inferior, General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affaires is resposible for ID card issue.
